Ellen McCaleb, Standing on the Divide

"To me, fishing is standing on the divide between the two worlds earth and water, at the confluence of air, water, hope, and fortune, and knowing that under me, swim some of the most incredible inhabitants of this planet."
-Ellen McCaleb

Ruth freezing but stoked!

I guided Ruth this summer in Alaska and she was a world of fun-always energetic and excited about the experiences around us. She and her husband were some of the most adventurous folks and we did a bit of exploration in one of our trips.
Ruth took a trip this winter to Northern New Mexico and sent us this pic!

Plunkers Paradise....that's all it was....

Plunkers Paradise I, originally uploaded by k8.Rogue Angels.

(sung to the tune of Pimper's Paradise by Bob Marley)..it was a plunker's paradise....

So begins the first in a series of Plunkers Paradise..... after spending the New Year out on some gravel bar..woken up...what time is it? odark30....that's not someone trying to steal my run-that's a Plunker, setting up their spot for the day.

A week later I'm floating by one, two, oh! three supreme residences for the daily plunker...wood stoves, chairs, roofs, was that a refrigerator? I see Larry's favorite cup hanging on a nail...

Next outing I find myself lined up at the sweetest gravel bar since the Sk*&^$ runs....spey rod in hand, beautiful pink goat ostrich dog pheasant tied on and there is no way I am getting past that line of plunkers...holy crap its 15 deep out here. Not even mentioning those two dudes in hip waders throwing the baitcaster....are they crazy or what.....wait a minute, who is crazy here? Sure those Plunkers are gonna stay in relatively one spot all day waiting for a fish to come along and tag their line.....I, on the other hand, am going to move around whipping and tossing and rolling and shooting and rocketing and stepping and hoping and holding onto all faith and wishing for the mercy of god for a fish to come along and tag MY line....who is crazy? I mean at least they get to drink beer all day.....And not give a f&*^ if their waders leak.....

Here's to Plunkers and their Paradise....more to come!

Rogue Angel LC

Rogue Angel LC catching snapping turtles

'Rogue Angel "LC" hails from SE MN's Driftless area. An area the glaciers missed 10,000 years ago and is now a beautiful area of Oak covered ridges and valleys with nice little spring feed trout streams teamin' with naturally reproducin' brook trout and brown trout (and as you can see in the pics a few other critters also). The streams are small and intimate, a perfect compliment to a 3 wieght, and small tippets. LC works in the summers as a National Park Service Ranger, and in her free time makes fine custom flyrods. She calls her little rod buildin' operation "Sticks for Chicks"'

Sandy River Spey Clave-Ladies Day!

Ladies Day on the Sandy River

In the last few years women have come to the Spey Clave in bigger numbers. We want this year to be the biggest gathering of women ever for the spey community! Come join us for a special gathering the day before the clave kicks off. LADIES DAY! On Friday the 15th. Come yourself, bring a friend, or better yet gather up all of your friends and let’s have a party! It’s an all inclusive day and it doesn’t matter what level you are:

*New to the sport of steelhead fishing and want to learn? Learn from fellow steelhead chicks.
*Gals on hand to show you and guide you on how to cast a spey rod.
* Not so new but wishing to build upon and polish old skills, this is the place to be.
* Husbands bring your wives. Dads and moms bring your daughter. It’s never too early or late.

Bring your waders to get wet, good attitudes, laughs, and your rod. Don’t have a rod? There will be a limited amount of rods to lend. There will also be introductory casting demos along with available casting instructors.
There is no charge except for the Oxbow Park entrance fee of $4.00 a vehicle and if you plan on camping there are spaces available on a first come first served for $15.00 a night (up to six people per site). Bring your own lunch and drinks.

Afterwards, join Patty, Mark and the FlyFish USA crew at the tent for a pot luck dinner and a power point presentation.

No pets are allowed in Oxbow Park.
